  • To fully achieve this qualification you will need to have access to real domestic installation working environments (this may be satisfied through direct employment or work placement arrangements) for your practical skills and competence  to be assessed. It is the responsibilty of all candidates to ensure they can provide working environments that will satisfy the competence assessment criteria and Ipswich Skills Centre accepts no liabilty for providing suitable working environments 

 

Who is this qualification for?

  • Candidates progressing from our Domestic Electrical training programme

 

  • Candidates who have completed or are combining 'Basic Electrical Installation' course option 

 

  • For those who have previously achieved a relevant Electrotechnical Level 2 qualification

 

  • For adults over 20 years of age who are currently working in the electrical installation industry or alternatively for those who have a have a minimum of 6 months previous on-site electrical installation experience

 

  • Please contact us for details of an alternative training programme for candidates with 24+ months on-site electrical experience

 

Why take this course?

This course provides the ultimate qualification for a domestic installer and the knowledge, skills and qualifications to:

 

  • To be employed or self-employed as a 'Qualified Supervisor' for electrical installations in domestic environments

 

  • Register as competent person with a scheme provider (e.g. ELECSA, NAPIT etc.) to certificate and sign off notifiable electrical work installed in a domestic environment without the need for Building Control. 

 

  • Register on a domestic competence person scheme (e.g ELECSA, NAPIT etc.) subject to providing evidence of work carried out to be able to demonstrate their competence for the scope for which they have applied 

 

  • Install and certificate non-notifiable electrical work in houses and other types of domestic properties

     

  • Install and certificate notifiable electrical work subject to Building Control who will take into account your competence and these qualifications

 

  • Carry out the full scope of electrical work in domestic dwellings 

 

Please note - Registration with a recognised scheme provider is currently subject to having 2 years on-site experience

 

What is this qualification?

 

  • This qualification has been developed to fully meet the requirements of a 'Qualified Supervisors' technical competence and Part P of the Building Regulations for electrical installations within domestic environments

 

  • Provides transferrable knowledge and skills for the Diploma in Electrical Installations for those looking to further extend  their skill set and work in the commercial and industrial environments

 

What recognised qualification does this course provide?

 

  • EAL Level 3 Certificate In Installing, Testing & Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings (QCF)

 

 

What does this course cover?

 

The daytime course content is as follows:

 

Blended home study (3 units) (fully supported home study learning using our 24/7 on-line professional learning resources, supplied EAL endorsed course books and personal tutorials with your own dedicated tutor):-

 

  • Understand and apply Health and Safety legislation, practices and procedures 'Electrical Installations in Dwellings'

 

  • Understand and apply environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems associated with Electrical Installations in Dwellings

 

  • Understand and apply the practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment when installing electrical installations in dwellings 

 

In centre/blended delivery (5 units)

  • Understanding and applying the principles, practices and procedures for the planning, preparation and selection of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in dwellings

 

  • Understand and apply the practices and procedures for the installation and connection of wiring systems and    electrotechnical equipment in dwellings

 

  • Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning, approving and certification of electrical installations in dwellings

 

  • Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrical installations in dwellings

 

  • Electrotechnical occupational competence - Approval of Electrical Installations in Dwellings

 

Please be aware that this 'Blended flexible study and training programme' option excludes all in-centre delivery with the exception of inspection and testing practical skills workshop sessions, examinations and in-centre assessments

 

On-site assessment (included in the course fee)

  • Writing materials, calculator and suitable safety footwear for workshop sessions
